Hardwood Floor Species, Types & Installation

Most of our hardwood floor installations at South Texas Flooring Company – (refinish & install 713-660-9189) – are ¾ inch thick, tongue & groove, solid oak. Face widths can vary from the traditional 2 ¼” width, up to 3″, 5″, and 7″ widths. Some other common species of wood often used for solid flooring in the Houston area are Walnut, Pine, Brazilian Cherry, and Maple. At times, our installations employ “reclaimed” flooring, often removed from older Houston area houses (and warehouses, churches, and old office buildings) that have been demolished.

From time to time, our installations necessitate engineered flooring (manufactured layered wood flooring, as opposed to milled solid wood flooring), particularly in situations requiring a lower floor level, common when new wood flooring replaces tile or other floor covering in part of an existing home.

We also install solid oak stair treads and risers, including balusters, banisters, and all stair trim.

All new unfinished flooring and stair treads are sanded, stained, and finished with urethane on site.
